KWC: October Updates
First an apology. A change in Google Maps some months ago threw out all the location links in Kyoto Without Crowds. I've now revised them, so they should be working properly again in the ebook now on sale.
A few other updates. Toji-in is under repair at the moment - the photo above shows the current state of the hojo. You can still see the garden for a reduced entry fee of 300 yen, but the buildings will not be open until 2020.
Hokongo-in has increased its entry fee from 400 to 500 yen, and Reiun-in from 300 to 500 yen.
CreateSpace, which did the paperback edition of KWC, is merging with Amazon's other publishing outfit, Kindle Direct Publishing. The downside of this for us is that KDP does not support Japanese characters. Since there's no information about exactly when books will migrate from one to the other, we've had to scramble against an unknown deadline to get a revised edition out with CreateSpace. (One result of this has been a couple of irritating errors I've already noticed: inconsistent spacing in two of the page references, and a failure to correct the printing of Hokongo-in, where the quantities should be long on the first and last 'o', not just on the first.) I'm afraid any future editions will need to lose the Japanese temple names as well as other references that make use of Japanese characters - unless KDP catches up with CreateSpace.
